Lion Ed was born in Cincinnati.  The family moved to Covington, Ohio and he graduated from High School there in 1954. After graduation he was hired by the French Oil Mill Machinery Co. in Piqua, Ohio, where he was employed for forty five years and retired in January of 2000.

 After the passing of his wife, Cynthia, he has enjoyed the company of his son Ed Mann Jr.; and his two daughters, Pamela Palmer and Diane Miller.  Both of his daughters have become Lions and are members of the Piqua Lions Club. Lion Ed has four grandsons and a great-granddaughter. He enjoys walking and was a Volksmarcher for many years.  Lion Ed attends St. Paul’s Evangelical and Reformed Church in Piqua.

 Lion Ed has held all offices in his club with the exception of Tail Twister and Lion Tamer. He served two years as Zone Chairman of Zone 7 and two years as Zone Chairman of Zone 8.  He became Deputy District Governor in 2005 and Vice District Governor in 2006. Lion Ed is a Melvin Jones Fellow and received the Council of Governors Award of Merit in 2006 and the International President’s Appreciation Award in 2007.
